Program Description

Every year between 44 and 98 thousand people die as a result of medication errors. Medication errors constitute the eighth leading cause of death. The majority of medication errors are preventable.

This course will review the common causes of medication errors and the agencies that are involved in medication reporting. The concept of FEMA (Failure and Effects of Mode Analysis) will be introduced as well as strategies to prevent medication errors in any healthcare setting.


Objectives
At the conclusion of the seminar, participants will be able to:

  • Discuss practical strategies to identify medication errors
  • Discuss new options to prevent medication errors
  • Discuss common dose calculations involved in medication errors
  • Identify high alert medications
  • Identify medication error prevention strategies
